For anyone who understands information technology and its role in modern day business corporations and firms will understand that IT is now a major player in business structures today. Rightly so too, the world as we live in has been greatly influenced by technology and so it makes sense that a lot of businesses will employ the use of technology. Information technology which is the chief tool in this has enjoined a tremendous rise to fame in the technology world and it is still boasting of some of the highest paying job opportunities in a shaky economical dispensation like ours. So it does not come to us as a cause of surprise when we hear that many people are going into the info tech to get some degree of skills. And this is what brings us to the issue of ITIL and its certification process.
What is ITIL?
ITIL is an acronym that stands for Information Technology Infrastructure Library and it incorporates the best practices to help enhance information technology service management. Service management simply refers to the way a business is managed for optimal productivity and growth. This is where the role of ITIL is really expressed and the benefits appreciated. ITIL itself has evolved over the years. It is today referred to as ITIL 2011 edition. But there was an earlier version referred to as the ITIL v2. There are many benefits that ITIL offers to businesses and some of them are summarised below:
ITIL is not just a tool, it is not just a set of guidelines towards managing business, it is a framework that offers companies, business corporations and firms a customized way to achieve their company's goals through a well structured technological approach. And the technology referred to in this case is information technology.
It helps individuals upgrade their skill and knowledge to get the best from information technology.
It eases the daily running of modern business corporations and large firms.
Business cannot just achieve goals with ITIL but they can monitor progress as well.
ITIL Certification Prep
Preparing for ITIL certification is not something to be taking lightly. It requires experience, skill and diligence. And it really does not matter which level of certification one is aiming at, one must go to it with a good degree of commitment to achieve the best from it. The previous ITIL known as ITIL v2 had three certification levels; that is, the Foundation, the Practitioner and the Manager. But the current ITIL which is an upgrade of the improved ITIL 2007 edition is referred to as the ITIL 2011 edition and just like it's well improved predecessor, it has 4 certification levels which are; Foundation, Intermediate, Expert and Master. There was also a cross exam that could help one join in the new edition from the ITIL v2 version. And individuals with complementary qualifications can also move towards ITIL certification by calculating the total amounts of credits their qualification offers them. To be an expert one would need a total of 22 credits.
But what does preparation for ITIL certification entail. Well, the first thing that must be put into perspective is which level of certification one is aiming at. Of course the higher the certification level that one is aiming for the more tasking the preparation. But even though this is the case it also means that the more beneficial the certification will be.
Steps to make ITIL Certification Easier
First, make your mind up on which certification level you will need based on your ambitions or present knowledge of information technology. Do you just need the foundation level certification that offers you two credits or the intermediate level certification that offers you an additional 15 credits? Or you would like to go further towards becoming an expert or a master. This is the first thing you must decide before you start your prep.
Then you would want to ask yourself if you have any qualification that can pass for as complementary qualification. This will help you get some credits before you even start from where you can build on. There is a credit profiler tool on the official ITIL website that can help you know how much credit you have got.
Finally, you should make use of any of the good study tools that are available online in preparation for the examination for the different modules in each certification level. Also bearing in mind that for each level you are awarded credits and the accompanying certification.
